Tips To Prevent Heartburn

Heartburn is a feeling or condition that causes great devastation and agony. It is caused by acid reflux which sees the flow-back of stomach acids to cause a burning sensation in the greater chest area right through to the mouth.

It is caused by many factors including eating heavy meals and eating particular kinds of food. Prevention is better and these are tips to prevent heartburn.

• Choose to eat less bulky meals that are divided over some period of time during the day. This is because eating bulky foods at a go will increase the chances of suffering heartburn. Therefore, spread meals and this will help.

• Avoid foods that have been seen to cause heartburn. Some beverages will also be notorious for causing acid reflux and they should be avoided where possible. These foods and beverages include alcohol, coffee, tea, cola drinks, citrus juices, tomatoes, chocolate, fatty foods, spicy meal and the list goes on.

• Make sure to eat meals more than 3 hours before bedtime. This is because lying down after having eaten food may cause stress to the system causing acid reflux. Therefore, eat early and if possible take time and stroll around to allow some digestion to take place.

• Having extra fat cells in the body will increase pressure on the stomach triggering heartburn. For this reason obesity will see many people suffer. Loosing weight however, will reduce this problem significantly.

• Avoid wearing belts and clothes that are too tight after feeding. You should give your system an allowance without putting any pressure on the LES lower oesophageal sphincter.

• Smoking has been found to elevate the chances of suffering with heartburn. Find good programs to rid smoking for a healthier wholesome life.
